𝐴𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝐷𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑦𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑥 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑡 𝐴𝑠𝑠𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛

Pavel Ionescu-Ambrosie is a Romanian bassoonist, conductor and artistic director with an extensive international career as performer, educator and cultural manager.

Born in Rm. Vâlcea in 1956, he studied at the Brașov Music High School with Prof. Gheorghe Ciavici and later at the Bucharest Conservatory with Prof. Gheorghe Cuciureanu.

He has been a member of several chamber ensembles, including the trio “Syrinx”, the quartet “Fagotissimo” (over 400 concerts across Europe), and the trio “Giocoso” (over 300 concerts).

With Trio Syrinx, he achieved major international recognition, winning prizes in competitions such as Llangollen (UK), Stresa (Italy), Capri (Italy), Tokyo, and others, and performing over 2000 concerts worldwide.

He has collaborated with major orchestras and institutions across Europe, Asia, and the United States, performing in leading concert halls including the Gewandhaus Leipzig, Konzerthaus Berlin, Gasteig Munich, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Tonhalle Zurich, and major venues in Shanghai and Beijing.

From 1997 to 2022 he served as Artistic Director and General Director of the “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacău, leading extensive international touring activity and artistic development.

He is also founder of the International Contemporary Music Festival “The Weeks of Contemporary Music”, and has organized more than 2500 concerts worldwide.

Today he is Artistic Director of the Syrinx Concert Association and an active figure in international musical education and competition juries.
